Deadline day review

The NHL Trade Deadline came and passed now. The biggest deal of the day came as the Cup Contending Vancouver Canucks dealt promising young centerman Cody Hodgson and seventh D-man Andrew Sulzer for 6'3 228 lb Zack Kassian and Marc-Andre Gragnani. Many were left in shock as Hodgson was considered Vancouvers future at center. He was stuck on the third line as the top two spots were securely owned by Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler respectively. Many speculate there may be a lingering riff between Canucks coach Alain Vigneault and Hodgson while others believe it was simply due to a lack of opportunity as the rookie was having a breakout year. Zack Kassian is still a raw power forward with lots to learn. It is a big gamble but Vancouver's toughness has been adressed with the Kassian addition as the big man is a willing combatant every night he is in the lineup. A step backward for Vancouver but they do address a need for grit. Winner: Buffalo - While Buffalo liked Kassian a lot the chance to get Hodgson had to be a snap decision as Hodgson has the ability to be a first or second line center in Buffalo while Kassian is still raw with more time necessary to develop
